Traditional Hand Made Rocking Horses

Building a wooden rocking horse

Almost completed rocking horseAll horses are constructed using high quality timber and individually carved by hand using traditional tools and methods. Most rocking horses are made of pine and ash with stands or rockers of English Oak. Other woods can be used and prices are available on request.

My rocking horses manes and tails are made of real horse hair and the bridles and saddles are genuine leather with brass fittings. Saddles can of differing styles and colours and can be fixed or removable depending on the type.

Detail of rocking horse headAll rocking horses I make are left as natural wood, not painted, but are polished with a child friendly oil finish which enhances the grain. Each horse comes with a brass plaque showing the rocking horse number, date of construction, name and other details.

Every rocking horse will look unique as they are hand carved and the grain of the wood also changes the rocking horses appearance.

The rocking horses take a considerable time to carve and finish, each one ending as a work of art in itself. However, they are all sturdily constructed and designed to give years of pleasure to children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren!
